A Review of the Book "Pretty Little Wife" by Darby Kane

TitlePretty Little Wife
Author: Darby Kane
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Year: 2021
400 pages

"Pretty Little Wife" is about a woman who is unhappy in her marriage and makes an interesting decision on how to end it - murder. But her plan goes haywire when her husband's body goes missing. Shouldn't a dead husband stay dead?

The main character, Lila Ridgefield, tries to figure out what happened, but so are the police, the neighbours, and her husband Aaron's friends and coworkers. In the process, many, many secrets are discovered - secrets that everyone wanted to stay secret. Aaron's murder and disappearance opens a Pandora's box of buried family history for both Lila and Aaron. Through it all, Lila becomes the main suspect in her husband's murder while also being terrified that he is actually alive and coming for revenge. Meanwhile, all she wanted was to reveal Aaron's true nature and get out of a controlling marriage.

After having read a couple of books that I really struggled with, it was nice to get into an exhilarating and thrilling story. Darby Kane's debut novel under her pseudonym is an absolute page-turner. This is the second book I have read under the thriller genre and I think I am hooked. Kane has a second novel out - Replacement Wife - and I just might have to pick it up.
