A Review of the Book "The Long Weekend" by Gilly MacMillan

TitleThe Long Weekend
Author: Gilly MacMillan
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
Year: 2022
337 pages

Four friends, a woman and three men, become really close throughout their college years. What happens when all three men fall in love with the one woman, and she marries one of them? When her husband dies, does that open the door for one of the other men?

"The Long Weekend" by Gilly MacMillan is an exciting page-turner thriller. Three couples agree to go out to a vacation spot for a weekend, leaving the widowed woman, Edie, behind. The three wives travel together with the men planning to come the next day. When the women arrive at their location, they find a gift and a letter from Edie that has grim news, making the women in a panic for the next 24 hours. The letter stated that while they are away, Edie has killed one of their husbands.

The mystery begins! And it is only the start. As you read through the pages, you think you pick up on clues as to who the murder is and who was murdered, but each time the story takes a sharp turn until you have no idea of the culprit or why this was all happening. It is a compelling story that you just can't put down. About halfway through I thought I had figured it out but boy was I wrong!

MacMillan keeps you on the edge of your seat and despite having multiple story lines, her writing remains clear and concise throughout the book.

For all the thriller and mystery lovers out there, I highly recommend this book. Just make sure you have time because you're not going to be able to put it down!
