A Review of the Book "The Kaiju Preservation Society" by John Scalzi

Title: The Kaiju Preservation Society
Author: John Scalzi
Publisher: Tom Doherty Associates
Year: 2022
258 pages

From the Back: When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for a food delivery app. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls "an animal rights organization." Tom's team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately sign on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for aren't here on Earth. Not our Earth, at least. In an alternative dimension, massive dinosaur-like creatures named kaiju roam a warm and human-free world. They're the universe's largest and most dangerous pandas, and yet they're more vulnerable that you might think. It's not just the Kaiju Preservation Society that's found it's way to the alternate world. Others have, too. And their carelessness could bring catastrophe to both versions of Earth.

Personal Thoughts: I am continuing to find John Scalzi's books quite entertaining. Of the ones I've read so far, this one isn't nearly as sarcastic as the others but that might simply be because I had no reference on which to lean the jokes, as in Redshirts for example. However, it was still a fun and well-written story and made for an easy read compared to some of the other books I'm working my way through at the moment. I don't think I will ever stop recommending Scalzi as an author for people to seek out for fun-to-read stories.
